This method has been known for quite a few years; especially in games that have shit crosshairs like Planetside and Rust which apparently lacks a crosshair all together (???). There are many overlay's that allow you to have a crosshair overlay, many which can be found on hacking forums and such, what makes this one different? Well we use the mumble overlay to our advantage. There are two methods of manipulating the overlay. One is to the use a custom mumbleol.dll which allows us to put a crosshair.png in the game directory and it will display it in the middle of the screen. This has been said to cause VAC bans to numerous people and personally not worth the risk to me just for a crosshair.
The second is to use the mumble avatar as the crosshair and edit the overlay settings so it displays in the centre of the screen. This method is by far the easiest and the best as there is no chance of a vac due to mumble in its 'factory' state being on the VAC safe list. One issue with the aforementioned method is that if more than one person is in a channel it will screw up the overlay and display their avatar as well.
The easiest way to overcome this is to join a server you know will remain empty or to host your own local server and idle in that. But senpai what if i want to talk to my friends in mumble?

The '-m' launch option can be used with mumble to allow you to run multiple instances of mumble at a time. The drawback to this is you need to edit the settings each time as both instances will use the same config hence drawing the overlay twice. So you need to disable the overlay in the respective mumble instance. Below is what you will need to do to get it working: Note: You can skip the steps referencing murmur if you will just be joining a dedicated mumble server. Step 1): First you need to ensure you have Murmur installed, this can be done by checking Program Files/Mumble for Murmur.exe. If it does not exist you will need to reinstall mumble and select the Murmur components when it asks you. Step 2): You will need this which goes where murmur.exe is, this tells mumble you are hosting a private server.
Step 3): Run murmur.exe, this should begin hosting the private server, you will able to tell if there is a task-tray icon. Step 4): Adding the private server to the mumble servers list, this can be done like adding any server, when the murmur server is running it should tell you what to put but if not the ip should be '127.0.0.1' and the port '64738'. Step 5): Create an image file that can be used as an avatar, make sure it has an alpha channel.
In theory you should be able to convert the stock tf2 ones or the quake ones pvh posted a while back into png and use those without any dramas with positioning. As long as they are centered.
I did find with cs:go i had to off-center to the right slightly for it to be centered in game. Heres the one I'm using currently: Step 6): Set the crosshair as your avatar, this can be done by going to Self Change Avatar inside mumble. Step 7): You will need the custom overlay settings. This needs to be set in the Configure Settings Overlay Load. Whilst you are there make sure 'Enable Overlay' is on. Step 8): You're done.
